How Many Clients

hello,

I would like to know how many clients will the rb230 handle. Thinking about using this for my Wisp… I have a MT server allready but I use third party equipment for the wireless sections. Meaning a PC 2.8gig with 1gig ram is my main server, than I connect third party aps to my MT ethernet slots. The problem is that I cant do WDS with my third party equipment and would like to change it to rb230s. So just wodering how many users can it handle?

thanks

Ah! A philosophical one!

How many fish can live in an ocean?

According to what is advertised the driver can handle 2007 users but the quality of service would probably be unsatisfactory long before you reach 1/40th of that amount. But then again, perhaps you’re only providing a wireless ntp service and as such it could perceivably be performing acceptable. Then again, maybe not.

So,

How many users do you recommend?

Simple question, can you give a simple answer?

There really is no simple answer for your simple question.
I wouldn’t recommend more than 20 on any 802.11a radio, even if it had the best cpu in the world. But i’m pretty sure an RB230 can do quite a bit more, it all depends on the quality of the service you wish to offer.

Thanks,

With this info I can make a decision

Thanks

We hold ourselves to a strict upper limit of 40 stations per radio, with a preferred limit of 30.
