I’m sure the CPU would be able to keep up with that amount of users, but you may need more storage space for logs etc.
On about 100 users over a period of a year, my UMDB grew to about 40MB. Maybe this could give you some sort of indication on potential disk space required.
Currently I run UM on a RB433aH which doesn’t even feel UM running in the background.
My original idea was to have UM running on a RB532A or RB600 (later) and boot from a CF with a Level 6 license, but unfortunately that is not supported. The only downside with using a router for UM, is you have to use the NAND for OS and upgrade the onboard license to your needs. Luckilly the RB1000 already come with a L6 license.
Hope my reply was useful, G

RB1000 should handle 5000 users without any problems.
As well it depends how long is RADIUS interim-update, if it is 10 minutes, then even 10000 users can be handled without any problems (even more). As well it is important, whether logging is enabled or not. Logging should be saved to the external disk, as well it is recommended to run external storage for the RB1000 User Manager database.
We made test for 8000-11000 users, database was running on 4GB 133x Apacer, it worked without any problems.
OKay I tested it with the new Usermanager from 4.02beta on my RB 1000, with nearly 1000 customers and my customers told me that the ping time is very high with Radius. Without everything is okay!!
User Manager only does authentication, it won’t cause latency to be high.
How did you implement the RB1000?
Did you change anything other than the RADIUS server?
