I need some help please, since I am a beginner.
I unsuccesfully try to connect my RB433 (using a wireless minipci CM9) to an routerboard (with internet) next door.
I do have WEP password and all, but I cannot setup my Routerboard properly using winbox!!!
When I Scan through my CM9 I found the desired SSID of the router but connecting seems impossible.
Please advice. I am looking around almost one week now.
You have your radio set to station mode, correct? When you check “/interface wireless”, does the radio show running?
If a dhcp server is set on the access point interface for the stations, then you need to set dhcp client on your station.
/ip dhcp-client
add interface=wlan1 add-default-route=yes use-peer-dns=yes disabled=no
Then check “/ip address” and insure it got an ip address/netmask.
I will try this. Thanks a lot.
I forgot to mention:
A second CM9 card (10.84.251.39/26) is already running as a client to a remote Acess point (10.84.251.1/26) plus one manual-root directs all trafic towards 10.84.251.1 {athens wireless metropolitan network}
I Actually want to add a second WiFi card on my RB433 with a small omni antena, which through ether2 of the same RB433 will be connected to one laptop.
I shall try the dhcp client mode, but…
WILL I need a second manual root for traffic from internet (towards the laptop)?
You have choices with the routing on the two cards. Maybe if you posted your deciding factor on which interface to use. Backup, rotating, source address, or ??
Addresses:
CM9(1): 10.84.251.39/26
CM9(2): xx.xx.xx.xx/yy (not entered yet - dhcp CLIENT?)
eth1 10.84.251.129/29 (Athens wireless Metropolitan Network to my desktop PC)
eth2 192.168.1.1/24 according to CM9(2)
AS Routes:
destination:0.0.0.0/0 >>> gateway:10.84.251.1 (AWMN Access point that i connect to)
WHAT ROUTE FOR eth2:192.168.1.1/24 in order to talk to CM9(2) DHCP client (distant modem/router with ISP)
Can anyone help with my current LAN configuration?
I have prepared a schematic of my current Network in detail (attached, thanks to XCEL!).
- The link from my laptop towards AWMN is operational!
- The link from my laptop towards the distant wireless Router (Thomson WiFi internet) doesn’t seem to work.
-
Is the IPs,Gateways,DNSs,Subnetmasks I have used correct?
-
Do I have to setup any static route in my laptop or RB433 in order to get both networks running at the same time?
-
What should those routes look like, both in routerborard and Laptop, in order to have both LAN operating (AWMN and Internet)?
P.S. 1
how do I setup the WEP key in my RB433 station (Winbox)
in order to connect as client to the DSL modem using a password?
P.S. 2
AWMN=Athens Wireless Metropolitan Network

At lease is there someone that could help with the Mikrotic configuration,
in order to connect to a wireless router modem?
-
Should I Use NAT?
-
How do I enter the WEP key, required in order to connect to the wireless modem?
