How to dimension a PC for PPPoE

Hello,

I plan to deploy RouterOS to a PC to serve approx. 500 PPPoE users. I assume that there will be approx. 300 users connected simultaneously. Also the box will be a firewall.
Can you please advice me what processor and ram will be appropriate for this setup and a scale up to 700 users.

I have xeon 3.2 ghz with 2mb level 2 cache and i handle about 800 pppoe connections..

a P4 2.5ghz or higher with at least 256mb of ram should be enough as long as you don’t go overboard with the firewall rules.
