I have a broken rb1100hx4 ETH1-ETH5 Ethernet port that cannot be used and the light is not on. I want to simply add electronic components to the missing M.2 and SATA interfaces to use them, or try adding the missing part of the RB1100HX4 DUDE EDITION high-definition circuit. It would be even better if I could know the model
As an electronics tech with too much experience, granted not in board repair. I wouldn't take that on.
Surface mounts are difficult to fix/add too. MAYBE if I had a reflow oven and I know which parts to add where and I knew people had made it work before would I consider it.
The RB1100AHx4 RouterBOARD has specific M.2 and SATA interfaces designed into the PCB, but these only function on the Dx4 “Dude Edition” model or if the board was originally equipped/configured for storage use. The standard RB1100AHx4 may not even populate or route those circuits for storage by design — meaning there might not actually be components or active traces fitted on your board to begin with.
If the board is identical with only parts missing it's definitely possible, and easy if you have a populated board as a reference. Whether it'll be recognized in software is another thing, if not probably there's an identifier somewhere
Will need some smd solder works but if you're experienced it's nothing crazy like moving a 4090 chip into a costum board for 48GB memory
If you're considering this why not replace the ethernet female jacks?
This is a very realistic task. You need to look at the standard connection diagrams for the corresponding connectors and solder the missing parts. There are examples of successful experiments on the Internet. Since all connectors are marked as SATA, the task is relatively simple: you need to solder 4 capacitors and check that the necessary power supply is available. Successful cases of such modifications are described on the Internet.
