Hi, I’m interesting in running OpenWrt on Mikrotik hadrware for some tests and comparisons.
Has anyone managet to get OpenWrt running on some of these Mikrotik devices: Mikrotik wAP, Mikrotik hAP AC Lite, Mikrotik hEX PoE Lite, Mikrotik mAP 2n, Mikrotik mAP lite, Mikrotik Omnitik 5HnD 5xPOE, Mikrotik SXT Lite2 or Mikrotik SXT 2 ?
It’s mostly written on the openwrt webpage if it is possible. Just follow the instructions there and it should work. What advantage do you expect from that?
I soldered pads to TX, RX and GND pads on the SXT board and connected it via usb to serial port to my laptop, but there is nothing on serial during the boot or when I enable netboot mode.
Is access to bootloader via serial port disabled on SXT devices?
Some serial to USB converters do not work properly. Get a real PC (even a 10 year old one will do), as long as it has a physical serial port. Even Windows 3.11 on the PC would do, heck, even DOS is fine.
You probably only need it once or twice, to set it up. After the OpenWRT loads, then the IP part comes into the picture, so you do not need the serial (and the old PC) any more.
Serial port is disabled in Mikrotik SXT Lite2 bootloader, but once OpenWrt image is running serial port is enabled and I could use it as terminal console which is awesome!
