If you want to go that way, don’t forget to increase transmission power of your mobile devices as well.
The power used is restricted by regulations. Only (correct, in my opinion) way to solve this is add an accesspoint.
I can’t increase the transmit power on my mobile device (in this case the PlayStation 5) but it’s maybe possible to do it on my mikrotik right ?
Yep, but it is two way communication.
The PS5 may be able to “hear” the Mikrotik if it “shouts”, but the Mikrotik may still not be able to “hear” the PS5 replying.
You missed the point. It’s two way communication, both devices transmit and receive. So if you boost one device to transmit to 25m it has no effect when the other device can transmit only 10m.
Anyway, -60 is very good signal strength.
Yes true i missed that point or two way communication, my bad
and is there any settings in wireless that should improve latency or stabilize performance ?
If you really want to improve that situation …
( drum roll)
add a cat6 cable.
Or powerline.
Or Moca.
You get where I am going to by now ![]()
@OP is not saying he’s getting -60db, he’s saying he’s getting 60**%** of signal. And only knows what kind of signal that means. My experience with 3G and 4G phones says that some vendors set 100% at values where service only barely works reliably and 0% at values way lower than those allowing service to work at all (the intention being to brag about how their devices are better than others because they “have better signal”). And leave users using their devices complain to MNO for not being able to use broadband services.
But anyways, you’re completely right in saying that boosting AP power is not the way to go. Days of having single AP covering full (multiple storey) house are long gone and one has to deploy multiple APs.
Correct once again ![]()
For play use a cable, any other consideration is useless, you do not have any control on environment & interferencies.
Any other methods add only latency & problems.
My guess: @OP doesn't have any wired network infrastructure available ... and/or he fell for "use wireless, it's better than fresh bread" motto of sellers of wireless equipment. Now his multi-player experience suffers but he'd prefer not to drill any holes in walls and ceilings (probably his parents/landlord don't allow it).
