Before I used a RB450 which I configured using WinBox.
Now I ordered a RB1200 for a bit more oomph under the hood, and…more ports.
But after installing I can only add port 1-5 into one switch, where port 1 = gateway, port 2 = master and 3, 4 and 5 = slave to 2.
Now I also have devices plugged into port 6 to 10. How can I get those to “work” as a switch within the network?
RB1200 has 2 switch groups. 1st has ports 1-5; 2nd has 6-10.
You can set 2-5 for switching (you did this already);Do the same for 6-10 and use port 6 as the master port.
Now add a bridge and bind port 2 and 6; You won´t take advantage of the switch chip for traffic between group 1 and 2,
but everything should work as expected.
No, its always better to use switching if possible, as long as you don´t need firewall rules etc. between the ports.
With switching enabled you always have wirespeed between the swiched ports;
Bridging takes some CPU-Power.
