How to Reset Configuration for a CRS317-1G-16S+RM to Factory Defaults?

Hi! I have a CRS317-1G-16S+RM switch but I can’t remember the login password. Is there any way to reset the switch to factory defaults?

I have tried the ones specified here:

https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=17956940#heading-Resetbutton

It says:

Press the button and apply the power, then:

Release the button when green LED starts flashing, to reset RouterOS configuration to defaults.

But this does not work at all.

I can access the serial console, and it gives the following info when it’s booting up:

========================================

RouterBOOT booter 6.47.10

CRS317-1G-16S+

CPU frequency: 800 MHz
Memory size: 1024 MiB
Storage size: 16 MiB

loading kernel… OK
setting up elf image… OK
jumping to kernel code

MikroTik 6.47.10 (long-term)
CRS317 Login:

I can’t find any option to enter the net boot mode or reset the configuration.

Is it impossible to do that?

It turned out to be the Protected bootloader function is so safe that it prevents me from doing the reset.

If the protected routerboot is active, exactly what the initial configurator wanted to happen on that device happens:
Completely useless if the user does not know the password.
