im looking at the hexgr3, hapac2, rb4011 and rb5009
will be doing mostly simple queues on clients
1 client = 1 parent simple queue and 2-3 sub queues
wifi will be disabled purely routing
64 byte (Routing 25 simple queues)
device | kpps | mbps
hexgr3 | 171 | 87
hapac2 | 506 | 256
rb4011 | 960 | 491
rb5009 | 1001 | 544
based on the performance above
hapac2 is 3x more cpu than hexgr3. correct?
rb4001 is 2x more cpu power than hexgr3. correct?
rb5009 has a very slight performance increase vs the rb4001. correct?
local prices i can add around ~10usd to the hexgr3 price to get the hapac2
the cost of 3 hapac2 can buy only 1 rb4011
and around the cost of 4 hapac2 for 1 rb5009
So the hapac2 looks to be the best bang for the buck. Correct?
it depends of the role you want to use the router
for process intensive task like queues i find the test 25 ip filter rules 512 byte the figure most representative to compare
i think hap-ac2 or rb450gx4 (both almost same cpu) the smallest router to recommend,
hap-ac2/rb450gx4 have almost twice the processing power than rb750gr3/rb760igs
rb4011 have almost twice the processing power than hap-ac2/rb450gx4 so almost 4x times the rb750gr3/rb760igs
the difference between rb4011 and rb5009 remains to be seen in real world, the published performance figures are not direclty comparable because rb4011 has number under routeros 6 and rb5009 number under routeros 7
rb4011 has another advantage because single thread performance doubles smalller routers because cpu clock of 1400mhz vs 712 of hap-ac2/rb450gx4 and 880mhz of rb750gr3/rb760igs
another advantage of rb4011, its cpu uses out-of-order execution which deliver more performance per clock than smaller routers cpu
i think rb4011 has the best price/performance ratio, includes plenty of ram of 1024mb and integrated storage of 512mb, and 1x10g sfp+ interface + 10 x gigabit ethernet rj45
i have tested rb4011 on many scenarios but
i have not tested rb5009 on real world scenarios so i cant do a fair comparison with rb4011
i expect rb5009 at least deliver same or better performance compared to rb4011
Can you please produce a rough list/table of the main types of RB, and their rank about performances, then the bus bandwith, bits, and OoO execution capability? You seem very competent and I would like to learn more.
