How to see if users have internet access

Is there a way to see if users are browsing the web?
They have no pppoe authentication.
RouterOS has a feature/tool to see this?
Thanks

There’s “/tool torch” that you can invoke with your local interface as the target. That way, you’ll see any connection made by your local subnet. You can filter it out to a particular client IP if you’re diagnosing a particular case.

This is not intended for “automatic” outage alerts, but for diagnosing after you’ve got the complaint, as a way to see whether they’re reaching the router at all or not.

This tool works even if another network is after local subnet/interface for example a router with different ip range?
E.g. CPE torch ->192.168.88.X ether1 interface/local subnet->router 192.168.0.X lan

Yes, but if you’re using NAT, you’ll only see the IPs of the subnet where the “torch” is invoked at.

So if you run it on a CPE router, you’ll see the IPs devices behind that particular CPE router, and if you run it on an upper level router, you’ll CPE routers IPs, etc.

Again I suggest you to switch to PPPoE authentication type…

It seems I can’t do that without using pppoe authentication

in my case, pppoe server should be CPE and pppoe client customers’ router? Is that correct?
what benefits I would get?

  • See if users browse the web and then?

If you use pppoe server / client:

first of all you do not need to change existing customers or existing hardware, you just need to add one good routerboard for pppoe server like RB1100AHx2 (it can manage till 1000 users without problems, with low latency [17ms google.it ↔ CPE on RB with 880 users.] )

second you can “convert” it without any particular difficulty, except if you actually are using very strange config.

both of type of service can exist, untill you convert all to pppoe, and you can take any time to do it.

third, you can control better if the user is online, traffic of the user, and multiple other things you can do only with pppoe…
like “you do not have payed the service”, “traffico esaurito”, “tempo esaurito” messages…
the queue are automatics and you do not need to change/create the queue for each users, etc., etc, etc.

other users on this forum can provide is own idea…

thanks rextended. Now it’s clear.
As I see, I need one access concetrator (pppoe server) for all my customers?
My problem is to have different and separate networks and as you can understand, I don’t how to implement that, maybe it’s a lil’ bit hard to achieve.
Natted networks are also a problem?I think not, bacuse they work in different OSI layers but I’m not sure.

pppoe work on it’s own on layer 2

for start using pppoe server, you can add VirtualAP to your access-point for cpe,
and bridge that interface with EoIP on pppoe server:

pppoe-server ↔ EoIP … EoIP on bridge with VirtualAP ↔ CPE wlan1 ↔ pppoe-client ↔ NAT (or public IP address, depend on service needed) ↔ local clients LAN

If I understand: pppoe server (RB1100AHx2) -->bridge with VAP on Access Point-> CPE ppooe client-> nat router → local lan?

Unfortunately, ma AP hardware is not mikrotik, but ubiquiti.
What do you use for your AP?

Uhm… this is a problem…

In my network I use only MikroTik hardware except for one ptp LigoWave…

For some time I have used ubiquity device as access point for the users network, but are more stable and robust tp-link device…

for other users: sorry for the Italian…

I sintesi:
al di là della marca, usare un server pppoe ha i suoi vantaggi,
ma mi sa che è più complicato del previsto per via dell’architettura ibrida.

Ora mi guardo la partia Germania-Argentina,

ciao!

at the moment I use rocket m5 as AP.
You? What do you suggest me?
Thanks for your help
Ps: I see you just add internet everywhere slogan on your logo! Right?

Enjoy the match!

Actually most of my ptp bridge are RB411 + R52Hn when I need dual polarization,
metal 5shn when I need only one polarization.

For access-point I use RRB433AH + 3 x R52n-M, only recently on new access-point I use
single metal 5shn for single polarization panel.

Actually I have buyed some BaseStation5 and I’m waiting some licence for put new access-point on new “traliccio” to be mounted.
I’m going to use BaseStation as ptp and as access-point with dual polarization panels.

About my WISP, I’m not working for Rete IVO…
la loro infrastruttura in queste zone fa ridere ed è anche illegale

so you don’t use sector antennas

Non ho capito.

I use only sector antenna for AP. (della Cyberbajt)

Are they better than Ubiquiti Sector Antennas?
Hai qualche info riguardo il 6ghz in Italia?
