I have a customer who wants a static external IP, as they wish to run a VPN from their office on my network to their head office, which is not on my network.
I currently have my Mikrotik router set with 1 external IP and am Masquerading to static internal IP addresses for my customers.
Honestly I thought it would be as easy as adding a second IP to my “Address List” on the WAN adapter, however my Host ISP provides my WAN IP by DHCP.
This is making me feel about as smart as a door stop today.
Any help on this is more than gratefully appreciated.
So you wish to provide a customer an ip address that you don’t own? If you only have a single IP address then you will need more. The problem he is having is because you only have a single IP address.
Yes, I wish to supply him with static public IP, I can get more - I just don’t understand how to set them up with the router, as it has a single IP assigned to the network card on the WAN side.
Or do I have to ask my Service provider to assign additional IP’s to my single network card (MAC Address)?
They shouldn’t need to know the MAC of your NIC. .. they just assign you more IPs and you place them on the interface, and the arps will find the right paths.
