How to setup Mesh

Ok, I have 7 access points, 411a’s that I need to setup to communicate with each other and to all have internet access.

Only 1 ap will have the internet uplink.

How do you do it? I would really like a list of settings and not just a bunch of code, as I do not want to copy paste, but input the code myself or use winbox.

No one at all has any idea how to setup a mesh network with ap’s?

This will not be much help but here’s what I know:

  1. there’s a wiki on setting up mesh look it up
  2. number of forum posters indicated there were bugs in V3 firmware
  3. I never heard of anyone using MT mesh in production

If you want, you can try my way:

  • all RB411s can be level4 licenses;
  • all RB411s can be ApBridge mode with the same SSID and frequency;
  • create a bridge and add ether1 and wlan1 such as ports;
  • set interface wireless setup, WDS such as dynamic and WDS bridge default as bridge1 (if your bridge is bridge1);
  • set STP flag in interface bridge such as RSTP protocoll;
  • add IP Addresses to bridge interfaces;

I use this sample setup and I’ve not problems.

That is frighteningly similar to my setup, only we have it on static mesh. With dynamic mesh do you have to put any mac addresses in, or do the AP’s automatically find each other?

aslo - what type of encryption are you using?
