My name chaya. my problem user an open all website(http) but it slow to redirect to yahoo mail, gmail, facebook (https site) and sometime pages can no open. I’m use RB1100. I’m just config Hotspot with FreeRADIUS. no web proxy.
I got only one answer “check your MTU”. can anyone give me more information about “MTU” and how to setup it? plz help me
Except under most unusual circumstances, the MTU on all interfaces should
be 1500.
If you are using tunneling of various kinds, the MTU may or may not have to
be changed to optimize fragmentation of packets too big to fit into the 1500 limit
on the interfaces. The mtu value is show in all interfaces, verify they are all the same.
There are common reasons for slowness or inability to get to web pages.
1.) Bad ethernet connection, reset or replace wires.
2.) Packet loss, check all interfaces for packet drops and errors, the miks have
good reporting on these issues.
3.) Sometimes packet loss is caused by full duplex/half duplex mismatch, this will
show up in loss and drop statistics. The autonegotiation of ether speeds and duplex may not work properly, verify resulting connection speed and duplex on both the
mik and any switch port it might be connected to. Ether1 in particular is often prone
to these problems, if stats show pack loss and autoneg is set properly, change to
ether 2 and all ether1 alone.
4.) Sometimes slowness is not network related but DNS related, if DNS servers
are wrong, or unresponsive pages will either be ‘slow’ to load or time out.
5.) Check cpu and memory usage to make sure something nuts is not going
on within the mik, cpu usage should be low, almost zero, certainly not above 20 to 50
percent except on HEAVY links and memory should be ample, not 80 to 90
percent used.
