Hello there! I have RB450 with routerOS v3.10. How to upgrade this to RouterOS version v6.0? I’m new with Mikrotik stuffs and its confusing me a lot with its routerOS version, Firmware Version and license key with all such stuffs. Any body there could please provide me with a simple step-by-step process how to go through this upgradation process. Any help will be appreciated heartily. Thanks.
Sorry! but i think this is not the same topic. My first topic was regarding AP setup help with the users. It has different topic with routerOS version up-gradation help with different subject line. Also, first topic was not specific as per the asked solution. Thanks.
I understood you want step-by-step guide tailored just for you, but be so kind and read the manual first, then try it on your own and after that ask for help if you did not succeeded with something that is described in the manual.
Jarda! Thanks for keep supporting. yes no doubt i admit that got the answer from the normis, but afraid to say that not to get the exact solution how to do this. He asked for the routerboard for upgradation and forward the details and still waiting his response on that.
Secondly, i have been gone through all the documentations and manuals thoroughly, but didn’t get the exact simple process how to upgrade routerOS versions. Also, please don’t take me wrong i really appreciate MT, but because of Mikrotik’s more confusing and messy working config. setup process among the new and/or used one users they avoid to deal with it and shifts to other routers vendors in the market. Hope you got my point. Thanks.
There is update and upgrade. Update means to use “check for updates” button at system-packages (within winbox). It offers to you newer minor versions and you can decide whether to update or not.
Upgrade means to manually move from one major to another major (e.g. 3.x to 6.x) This is done manually by downloading the all packages zip from website, extract the zip and via mouse drag-and-drop action copying the selected files into opened winbox (of via ftp, smb…). The files are accepted and stored in root of “files” (can check the “files” menu). Then reboot does everything.
This can be done also with minor updates.
So for you, to be sure (and believing Normis about the procedure) I would download v 3.30 manually, extract and put the required files into winbox. When correctly uploaded, reboot. Then update the license (press the update button in system-license). Then reboot. Check the license allows you to install 6x version. Download the latest (at the moment it is 6.13), put the selected pakages again, check files and reboot. And check finally that everything works fine.
It should be done. For sure, i suggest to export the config first. (if you are not able to configure it again) use command “export compact” in terminal window, copy out or save to file. Then after all upgrades are finished, remove the configuration and put the config back. May happen it will not be necessary. Also may happen that it will result in an unexpected state that would need to reinstall the device via netinstall tool. But this is for another topic (and also widely described all around here.
Hope I helped.
If you cannot afford any failure, prepare spare backup device (configured and tested - and do the upgrade operations out of the live network) or at least ask more experienced friend or mikrotik consultant that can be on site with you during the upgrades.
But as I remember, you are doing it because you do not want to give possibility to see/change anything than wifi pasword for some users that will operate it. What about to give them full access and do not bother by this, if it works now? If they break it, than it will not be your fault…
Well, this depends on the user / administrator. I am playing with networks maybe 20 years, even my profession is totally different, I do the networks because they makes me think a bit differently then normally. So it is like playing chess or piano… After many years with customer grade web-based-configured devices I realized that I need something more configurable from many reasons, but feeding a big computer byl electricity was not an option. Then I found Ubiquiti. I started to read forums, documentation and everything I could get. By this I found Mikrotik. After some time spent by learning both approaches I have selected the Mikrotik.
When I unpacked the first router from Mikrotik I got, I was unable to connect in for 1 hour! Can you imagine?? And then, it took two additional hours just to run it as silly home gateway! My god! I thought I have enough knowledge to do it smoothly and almost immediatelly like other routers. And not. It was really terrible feeling. The milions of options and every second option is able to break something that I even did not know about its existence!
It needed some enthusiasm and willingness to try the things in different way, but now I can say: In more logical way manytimes. At least I know what is happening in my networks and I can have control about it. This was impossible before.
Yes, the beginnings with the Mikrotik are full of pain, but if you keep going forward, it will open you new world that can be explored. And you will not regret.
Attached are the files uploaded from all_packages-mipsbe-3.30.zip to RB450 file folder. What to do next Bro? What to do old files in this folder? Thanks.
Just reboot. I do not believe you need really all packages. System, advanced tools, dhcp, routerboard and security should be enough. But anyway, just reboot as i wrote recently.
Okay! After reboot i got this in file windows. What happened to other installed packages? And what to do next Bro it didn’t changed the routerOS version? Thanks.
Hey Bro! What is this? as per your saying after clearing all the files and downloading v3.30 from your provided link and installing at file folder and rebooting the router i am unable to access the router its not showing in winbox now. Even not getting double beep sound for normal booting completion from the router. I’m very much worried losing of my router . How to fix it. Please help now. Thanks.
