I have installed MikroTik RouterOS 5.20 with license level 6 on a Computer. I have a D-Link DWA-125 rev.A3 USB Wireless adapter and a D-Link DWA-525 PCI Wireless adapter. I want to use D-Link adapters with MikroTik as wireless interfaces, but mikrotik doesn’t recognize them. Any solution for how can I use them? Please help me.
ROS 5.20? Why? It’s not even the latest version in 5.x branch.
It’s a private reason. But what’s the solution?
They will not work in any RouterOS version currently available. The chipset is unsupported.
Some versions are really good, I mean extremely good and popular among users. And coincidently, they usually have trouble upgrading to newer ones. Do you need more hints? ![]()
Sob,
Even if this version is very, very good, popular and despite the fact that OP is installing it not upgrading then the question “why?” is quite resonable.
Has he checked newer versions?
Does this version support PC which is installed on?
5.26 is not “so far” from 5.20 as 6.xx version is so could it be worth to check?
We have had so few information so why not to ask for more?
Answering to your question … yes, please ![]()
2.9.27, 3.20, … nothing?
It’s (most likely) cracked version, L6 alone is the best hint. I mean, someone buys $250 L6 license just to play with it on computer with unsupported consumer-grade network adapters? Yeah, right… Or ask Google for “routeros 5.20 level 6” and the kind of links you get is pretty obvious too. The problem for users of these versions is that they’re stuck on given version, because legitimate upgrade version from MikroTik won’t take their license anymore. Plus some of the newer ones are known to have unwanted “bonuses” included.
I’m not judging, because that’s exactly how I got hooked on RouterOS, I had 2.9.27 on my home router (Pentium 75 PC
) for few months, before I replaced it with RouterBoard. And since then, I’m recommending MikroTik products to everyone. Looking back, I think that these pirated versions was the best advertisement MikroTik could wish for. They surely lost them some sales, but in the long run, I’m sure they brought them enough paying customers to make up for it.
Once you have license on the disk, you can netinstall fresh system which does not contain unwanted third party addons.
I am not encouraging anyone, just posting technical information.
Only if there’s really the right license on disk, which was the case with some leaked VMware images, but then MikroTik blacklisted those ids and it wasn’t possible to upgrade anyway. And I think that the newer versions installable on any disk had something patched to return the same software id anywhere, while the id on disk was different, so even reinstall to clean version didn’t work. I don’t know it for sure, it was after I stopped caring about this.
But I think it’s all pointless now. In most cases, it’s better to just buy MikroTik hardware. Home users, hobbyists, small business, they all have enough models to choose from. Not too expensive and much more practical than some PC or server with x86 RouterOS. And even if someone wants to use RouterOS without paying for it (new starting ISP in very poor country, perhaps?), it’s probably better to use CHR and its unlimited trial mode.
I agree. Just to add for someone who wants to play and get familiar with RouterOS, I need to say that there exist leaked x86 vmware machines that are still perfectly upgradable to the latest versions. Legally free chr is for sure much better option to make even long time test before someone decides to buy easily affordable license.
