Perhaps a stupid question, but better safe than sorry. Can someone confirm that I can use the
HS-2733LC20D modules in an SFP+ port on say a CRS309?
Clearly I can't put an SFP+ module into an SFP port, but since these can go to 2.5Gbps, it makes me think it should work in an SFP+ port.
There are several SFP-only devices in the "Related Products" section...
But also CRS328-4C-20S-4S+RM, CRS310-1G-5S-4S+IN and others that are SFP+

Why not? If the module also supports 1G, it's almost certainly backwards compatible.
Many but not all mikrotik device SFP+ ports support the 2.5G rate.
A couple of mikrotik SFP ports also support this rate.
