Hi all!
I struggle to setup backup internet connection in my office. I have new Vodafone (Huawei) K5160 USB dongle and RB951G-2HnD. My goal is to have Ethernet internet connection and immediate backup via USB LTE dongle. I have this setup working in other office with different Operator/Provider (different modem) and its working flawlessly. With Vodafone it seems impossible.
When looking to winbox, i can see USB device showing correctly but number of ports is zero. In System-Ports is one serial port and its red. There is no new LTE interface and when i try to connect through PPP tunnel, i can see errors in log about RouterOS being unable to open serial port of modem.
Out of pure frustration a grab old Huawei K2540 dongle from my box of shame and that “works” through PPP, but with speed of EDGE/GPRS.
Can i kindly ask you, wise internet strangers, for little help? Maybe little push to right direction?
Hi everybody,
I deal with the same problem with Vodafone (Huawei) K5160 USB dongle. Log say “could not acquire serial port”. Do you have any solution?
Newer dongles sometimes do not operate with PPP. This may make existing recipes you find on the net incorrect.
When you see an interface named lte1 when the dongle is plugged in, only setup a DHCP Client on that interface
and it should get an IP address and you can route through that interface.
