http auth through Hotspot Trans. Proxy

edited title

We’ve had several customers tell us that they “can’t check their email” but finally got the skinny on it today.

They are trying to connect to an http site for webmail, which is MS Exchange Server. When I do it from my box (on a different network) I get the standard http authentication box. When I type in username and password, I get through no problem. Customers, however, would enter their http auth and it would just hang on “loading page” in the status bar.

I turned off “transparent proxy” in the hotspot user profile section, and suddenly, they customers can get through to this.

I read somewhere that the transparent proxy for the hotspot is separate from the proxy and web proxy features on the RouterOS - so I can’t find a way to get around this issue.

Has anyone else had this problem with hotspot/transparent proxy and MS Exchange Webmail not allowing authentication? Why would the transparent proxy not allow what looks to be a standard http auth?
