HWMP+ With Existing Station - HELP !

hi,
/me is a complete n00b at Mikrotik - please be gentle.

I am connected to a wireless user group (station mode) and would like to add a local MESH (AP/Bridge) for clients to connect to in order to aleviate traffic on the user group’s AP.

My current setup is attached. See HWMP+.jpg.

According to HWMP+ wiki at the bottom of the page it shows quite clearly that I cannot include the station on the MESH Bridge. I understand why this cannot be done but have no clue as to how to add the new WDS link as a default route for clients that are part of the MESH.

Any ideas ? Please explain in full - I.e. what IP addresses to use - what routes to add - and if needed what NAT should be implemented ???

Mikrotik Gurus ? :open_mouth: Where r u ? Help me pretty please - if you need more detail - or if I am not being specific with my problem - please let me know.

Thanks guys (and girls).

Ok .. I’ll explain a little more clearly - hopefully someone will respond:

My Kit:
RB433 with 2 WLAN’s (both 802.11G on 2.4ghz - different channels used) and 1 Ether

WLAN 2:

  • Setup and working 100% as it supposed to
  • Clients connect to AP 172.18.23.254 and reach the broader network 172.18.0.0/16
  • On PC a persistant route is added to ensure all traffic destined for 172.18.0.0/16 goes via WLAN2
  • 172.18.23.254 is default gateway and also takes part in OSPF routing on behalf of the broader network

WLAN 1:

  • New network - this is the one I need help with !
  • MESH has been added with WLAN1 and Ether1 as ports
  • Interface has been configured as Dynamic-MESH
  • WDS links are automatically discovered and is working as it should

My problem:
How do I force traffic accross WLAN 1 (WDS MESH) instead of using the existing WLAN2 ?
What IP’s must I configure on the MESH ?

For testing purposes I will host an FTP on PC ‘A’ and connect to it via PC ‘B’. Start file transfer and whatch traffic flow on RB to see which route it takes. Of course a more simple trace route will be used first to ensure traffic is being routed via WLAN1.

Further detail:- Traffic has two possible paths WLAN1 and WLAN2.

  • All config’s I have tried shows traffic still being routed via WLAN2
  • The MESH (WLAN2) uses a layer 2 (MAC) FDB to establish routes
  • Where WLAN1 uses a static route configured on the RB to use gateway 172.18.23.254 for all 172.18.x.x traffic.

PLEASE HELP !!!
