I cant get more than 50 Mbps through a PtP Netmetal 5 link

Hi, I has trying to configure a PtP link (about 3 km) but I can´t get more than 50Mbs in bandwidth test (in both directions).

I use 6.34.2 and RB 922UAGS-5HPacD 2x2 chains.

I tried several configurations… first with with NV2 the CCQ are very very low (2 to 7 %), now tried with nstreme and CCQ are about 70% but unstable.

Activate two chains (0 and 1)

I tried change to all non busy frecuencies without results.

I tried to connect only to AC mode but no luck, tried 20-40-80 channel widht with no luck…

How is the better configuration to get the best results… I need a link with about 500 Mbps (between 300 to 500)

EDIT: Corrected mistake, I need 300 to 500 Mbps (Megabit per second) sorry for mistake

I appreciate all help.

Best regards!!

Hi,
500 Mbps is not so easy !!

But 50 Mbps is nothing for Netmetal , are you sure a firewall or queue is not limiting your traffic ?? if you are sure , check your LOS , reflection , humidity , tower height , …

it’s better to export your wlan configuration here

Try the test in one direction with UDP. Let us know the results.

Also, what is your signal strength readings like?

I personally have not seen more than 100mb udp, one direction on a 11mile (17km) link.

Note that the devices are not made for speed tests. Particularly tcp (heavy overhead). Can you test from a pc on both ends of the link.. Say with iperf?

Hi, thanks for your reply, no firewall rules and no queues, only a transparent link… tomorrow post a config export.

About LOS is direct line (2 kms), the mikrotiks has direct line sight.

Thanks!!

Hi, signal stenght is about -45 in all chains and stable.

Then with this equipment who´s the max troughput that I can get? I want to link a fiber on one point to a house, the fiber is symetric 300 Mbps… Do you think with this equipment I can get this speed on the other side?

Tomorrow I try with iperf and post here a configuration export.

Thanks a lot!!

It depends on many variables !
first of all -45 is too much , may be your AP interfering with itself , decrease your AP power to achieve -50 or -55
second if you need real tcp 300 Mbps , i don’t think it would be possible with a single Netmetal , may you have to use 2 independent links and bonding each other or use OSPF to achieve a real TCP link

But before that you have to fix and tune your current link , try to check reflections, antenna alignment, use one chain, frequencies and … there are many things could cause this problem

check for interference and be sure of freznel zone is clear

I think the config is right, no I will try to reduce power TX

How is this config? Tune in it, can be good?

Post screenshots from both AP and station:

Wireless > Registration > registered: signal tab
Wireless > Interfaces > wlan1 > Status

Are there other 5GHz devices near?

Hi, yes, are so many 5ghz providers in round but I select the lowest used channel… lower than 10% use.

Here has the pics

Regards!!

What is your antenna ?

looks like your are using an antenna with wide beam-width , there are many interferences on your link

Hi, using a mANT30 PA on each side, 2 km link… do you think need to replace RB and antennas? or can I fix it with this equipment?

I think mANT30 PA has only 3 degree beamwidth… now I´m testing with tx power on each side, manual tx power changed to -15dbm and signal keeps on -46 tx/rx

mANT30 PA is perfectly match with Netmetal , so strange !!

try lowering the power,a 30 dbi antenna is too much for a 2 km link specially when used with a high power radio like Netalmetal , here is what you done : -28 is so strong man  lower your power until you get -50 … - 55

Hi, I have here new results with lowest power, lowest power that can configure is -30… no low than this and with -30 power transmit the signal still -49…

Here some screen captures, do you think this will be ok? but one of the RX Rate on the AP side change to 6Mbs sometimes…

Tomorrow will make some test more and tell you if still OK.

Thanks a lot for support!!

How do you check reflections?

Hi, I have not checked reflections… not idea who is it and how check it

I´m a newbie… medium user

I just wonder if lowering the power actually only sets the radio power while in TX mode but may not adjust the gain of the radio in receive mode RX, do these radios have any AGC circuit and if so it may have a very limited gain/reduction range

Yeah thank you , i just forgot about Rx , i think we should use a 25 dbi antenna or replace Netmetal with a low power radio , Netmetal with a 30 dbi solid dish is too much for a 2 km link.

Yes, my client bought this without ask me

I has a QRT5 that has a panel antenna with 10 degree beam and 24dbi antenna, maybe this will work fine with this 2Km link?
