i have a tower with 2 omnis, different ssid, different channels.
i connect more than 150 clients. I’m having lot of disconnections.
it is always said that panels are better than omnis, so i am thinking it’s time to do something to give a better service to my clients
i have 2 omnis with 2 ssid
ssid omni1 = “wireless1” / ch6
ssid omni2 = “wireless2” / ch1
i want to do the following thing: replace this 2 onmis with 3 120º panels, and set up virtual APs
panel1 → AP ssid = “wireless1” & virtual AP ssid = “wireless2”
panel2 → AP ssid = “wireless1” & virtual AP ssid = “wireless2”
panel3 → AP ssid = “wireless1” & virtual AP ssid = “wireless2”
if i do this, i don’t have to reconfigure every client.
Questions
is this a good solution to improve wlan activity?
in every panel, do i have to use same channel o different channels for each one?
will i have any problem using same ssid in every panel?
Looks good to me. I think I would have a seperate SSID on each panel, however, doing it your way will allow you to change them at your convenience.
In my hotel wireless, all running the same SSID, I ran into issues of customers connecting to the wrong AP, roaming, etc, when the signal for one AP was -75 and the other was -88 or so. Should be obvious which one to connect to, but a lot of the client radios roam for no apparent reason.
ROS may not have the same flaw, but I plan on different SSID for each once I have enough customers for sectors.
Yes. With Sectors I see much better receive Signal at
the AP side.
Use different Channels to reduce selfinterference.
Mt clients chose Sector with best signal. If you want tö influence
this you can use Accesslist. So using same ssid is ok.
We use same ssid on all towers so we have one client config.
Problem is when the AP boots client may choose the wrong
AP-Antenna.
