I`m Building my first router, need input!

Ok so im building my first router box using an old P3 500mhz 256MB ram mobo that i just bought for like 30 dollars. I already have two linksys wrt54g routers running dd-wrt for wireless and now I want to throw a mikrotik router into the mix. I wanna keep using my linksys routers since there are already on my roof and working already and I want to use my soon to be mikrotik routerbox for Bandwidth management + firewall + webproxy + dual gateway ( two dsl lines from different isp`s ) and last but not least user management. Can this little P3 box handle this ? I will be servicing about 10 to 20 clients, some wireless and some wired. Thanks in advanced for your input!

welcome to the forum!

sure it can. let us know if you need any help setting it up

Thanks for the reply normis  Another question I have is if i change all my access points to mikrotik can I do all bandwidth management and user management from my routerbox ? hmm.. let rephrase that.. If all my access points are mikrotik can i manage the bandwidth of all access points connected to my routerbox ? like the wireless speed limits of each AP or do i have to set those individually on each AP ?

limits for each AP you must configure on each AP. there is no central management. you can use the Dude to manage the network more quickly, but you will still have to configure each AP separately

Thanks again normis for the reply but what about the user management part ? can it all be done from one central place ?

If you are reffering to “user manager”, yes, it can be done in one place. And in this case it does not really matter what your client are ( hardware ).
If not this, and your clients are MT boxes, and you mean by central location to be a central mt access point, again this can be done.
If not this either, and you are routing your content, the gateway, that being a mt, can do your limitations.

You better draw your thoughts, for them to be better understood.
