I need help with RB1000U

Dear All,

It may be a really primitive request but I need help with RB 1000U.

Nowadays do you know how difficult it is to find a null modem serial cable FFS?

Anyway I bought this device a few days back, and I need to configure it. I could set it up to boot from ethernet and with netinstall software I were able to install the routerOS on it. Afterwards I could make it boot from NAND and bam, my serial cable was broke. The cable I have made with soldering iron and which took 2 hours of mine very very newbie in soldering iron business.

Now how on earth can I give one of the interfaces an IP address??? Why is this so difficult???

Seriously, why is it so difficult to do initial configuration to a simple device? Can’t you pre-install with some RouterOS which will receive IP address from DHCP and so we can configure it with our WEB BROWSER rather than struggling with stupid serial cables and terminal softwares???

If I recall correctly, it’s preconfigured for 192.168.88.1.

I don’t know how you find serial cables/null modem cables hard to find, tho. They’re still a default in networking.

You could just do it like everyone else, connect yourself to an ethernet port of the RB1000, start winbox, and connect via mac-address.

OMG, I didn’t know that I could do that.

It worked!!!

Thanks a bunch

Don’t Routerboards come with ROS preinstalled? Ours did.

I’ve brought several RB400 series boards and crossroads CPE’s and they have come with RouterOS installed. I suspect that it’s either a RB1000 specific issue or it’s a misunderstanding of the new owner.

All RouterBOARD devices come preinstalled with RouterOS. Plug in and connect with Winbox.
