I need some kind of vlan over wireless..

The situation: I have 4 ADSL connections and need to bring these connections seperately to some place a few kilometers away from where the modems are. These modems get you an IP via DHCP, so I need to get them seperated via some kind of VLAN or different layer 2 ‘tunnel’ like EoIP.
We already have 2 RB600A boards with cards and antenna’s to do nstreme-dual (we need the bandwith and (near) full-duplex capability).

modem1---vlan1---|               |                            |           |                         |           |                |
modem2---vlan2---| managed |---vlan1-4 802.1Q---| RB600|---nstreme dual---| RB600|---8021.Q---|Some server or
modem3---vlan3---| switch-    |                            |           |                         |          |                 |switch to seperate
modem4---vlan4---|               |                                                                                              |these vlans

I read that vlan’s don’t work with nstreme-dual because of problems with the bridge functionality.
Can I use EoIP to achieve the same functionality? Just bridge every EoIP endpoint to a vlan?

Wouldn’t be it easier to get a 5ethernet RB? (Like a RB450)

ADSL1 -> |-------|.....................................................|-------| ETH1
ADSL2 -> |..RB ..|.............-> RB600 -> NSTREME2 -> RB600 ->........|..RB....| ETH2
ADSL3 -> |..450...|....................................................|..450...| ETH3
ADSL4 -> |______|......................................................|______| ETH4

You can EoIP them or just route as different networks with a /30 PtP

You can use more performant RB if u think RB450 doesn’t fit your business tho, but i don’t think there’s much difference from a managed switch.

We need vlan’s on the wired-sides of both RB’s. The routerboards are a few-100 meters away from the switch/server:
Using 4 cables is not an option. It is not possible in our situation to use more than 2 UTP cables to the routerboard.

Switch/|---200m fiber (with vlans)---|switch|---|POE unit|---100m utp---|RB600|
server|

The switch is only used for fiber<->UTP conversion.

P.S. Why is [quote] not using a fixed-space font? Or am I doing something wrong?

Between RB450 and RB600 there’s only one cable.

Do I really need an extra RB to do this? Can the RB600 not terminate these EoIP connections and put them on a vlan AND facilitate the nstreme connection at the same time?

In your configuration you added Managed Switchs.. I just replaced them with Routers that give you more configuration solutions.

OK :slight_smile:
Well, we have plenty of managed switches available, but no routerboards. And because of the non-profit use, buying more RB’s is not really an option.
This evening I will try to build a setup with EoIP and vlan’s.
