This is happened about a week past.
I’m subscribed with the DSL Cable to my ISP. About a week past, my Mikrotik wont initiated the connection to my ISP DHCP Server. There is mac address lock option in my ISP. So i have to tell them my mac address and they only open listed mac address in their server.
The status of my DHCP Client is only searching ..
Without any ip addresses given. But weirdly, if i change the connection to my notebook running WinXP and modify the mac address just the same as my mikrotik box, it succeed. My ISP give me an IP Address.
I still dont get it, what kind of technique they used to block.
I have tried twice to re-install the mikrotik, but still the same. So i guess this must be my ISP locking.
Definitely and sure..
Done it already.
Wont do any good also. The same problem exists. Even changing mac address, wont do any good also.
So i guess this must be from the ISP side. I dunno the packets sent by mikrotik to DHCP. The fact is when i 'm using WindowsXP, it works.
Both WindowsXP and Mikrotik have the same mac address. Because my ISP doing mac address locking, so i have to use the same mac address to connect.
Check the interface if it passes any traffic, by connecting something else. ( for example, put a cheap router to be dhcp server, conect it to the mt public interface, and see if your mt gets an ip… )
If PC, change the network card, see what happens.
I had some a few time ago, just won’t pass any tcp traffic. See neigbours mac, just won’t ping. No firewall on it. Changed the card, works like dream.
Since then, i only use intel and 3 com. Just saves my time.
