I’ve unplugged my router about three times now (that’s what I usually do with my Linksys and consumer routers), and I just noticed there was a shutdown button in RouterOS. What will improper shutdowns so? Is my MikroTik okay?
Well, any stats that normally persist across reboots would be offsetted or removed altogether… Though honestly I don’t know which stats are preserved and which aren’t.
More importantly, if you have any scripts or any kind of thing (e.g. FTP) that write files on the HDD, they may APPEAR to have worked, but haven’t. RouterOS schedules HDD writes every 2 seconds, while things “unblock” instantly for further input.
So… As long as you wait for at least 2 seconds before unplugging the device and are certain there’s no files to be written… It’s pretty much safe to forcefully shut it down. And any potential “damages” otherwise are minimal.
Thanks for the information! I don’t have any logging scripts or anything going to the HDD yet, so I think I’m okay. ![]()
