installation problems

Hi all. I need help on the following. I have a routerboard 133/133C loaded with some sort of openware software. I would like to install the mikrotik routeros software, and have done the following:

I connected a serial cable and an ethernet cable. Using hyperterminal, I can get into the bios of the router. I set it to boot from ethernet. I then used the netinstall program. The problem is that the netinstall program can’t see the router. On the hyperterminal screen I can see the router trying to find a dhcp server?? Can anyone help please as this has been bothering me for the past 2 weeks.

Detailed instructions here http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Netinstall

My other 2 cents.
I wouldn’t waste my time or money if I had to buy a license for it.

Aug: why would you have to buy a license? I don’t get it.

I have followed the instructions exactly.

Quote: “Watch the serial console as the RouterBoard reboots, it will indicate that the RouterBoard is attempting to boot to the NetInstall program. The NetInstall program will give the RouterBoard the IP address you entered at Step 4 (above), and the RouterBoard will be ready for software installation. Now you should see the MAC Address of the RouterBoard appear in the Routers/Drives list of the NetInstall program.”

It is at this point mentioned above that the Net install program does not see the router. Any suggestions??

Did you connect the router to the windows PC directly with the correct type of ethernet cable? make sure to disable any other interfaces in your windows pc, and turn off the firewall

yes I did that. Although the cable is x-over? I also tried winbox, and can’t even see the mac address

I saw the 133 was loaded with openware software.
If he doesn’t have the license key, wouldn’t he need to purchase one??

no, all RouterBOARDs are manufactured with a preinstalled RouterOS license. Even if it was overwritten at some point, he can still get it back.

so whats the verdict? Is there any other way to load the ros

Cool. Good to know.

Last night I downloaded a tftp server, and tried to upload the .npk file to the router. The router received an dhcp address, but still would not boot. Any Help would be much appreciated. Thanx

A what? You mean Netinstall  ?

No, I tried NetInstall, but it would not work, then I downloaded a openware tftp server program, and tried it with that.
