Installation

Hi,
I am setting up a test environment so that I can learn how to setup a hotspot. I have downloaded the latest routerOS from the website and installed in on an old Sony Viao laptop I have. I am using 2 pcmcia cards on to connect to the LAN and the other is a wireless card.

The problem I have is that I cannot see either card when I use the /interface print command. One of the cards is a prism and the other is a dlink-DFE 650. THe current irq’s are below

Ricoh Co Ltd RL5c478 =9
Ricoh Co Ltd RL5c478 =9
usb-uhci =9

I am not sure if the irq’s are the problem but if they are how do I change them?

Thanks Mark :frowning:

I have a stupid suggestion, but have you tried to remove one card, swap the PCMCIA slots in which they are inserted?
I also had a problem regarding empty output in /interface print, but it is interesting that i never experienced this on routerboard, only on x86 version and regular PC. A lot depends on the chipset type in your laptop. I hope is is Intel based.

Hi Jagger,

I have tired what you suggested but it’s made no difference. The laptop does have an intel chipset … I have also download the x86 npk from the site but I can’t upgrade from CD ?? Oh well any other ideas on how to get this working.

Thanks Mark

Interfaces might not show up if you don’t have an appropriate license.

Eugene

Hi Eugene,

I have 19 hrs to run on this version I have. If I can get it working I will buy a licence. When I start to routerOS it gives me the message the router has no software key. It then shiws me the current installation software ID and then press enter to continue. Does this mean I can only use the routerOS locally until I buy a licence ?

Mark

no, this means that all features will work fine for 24 hours. after that you have to reinstall, or get a key.

(if you turn off the router, the 24 timer stops)

Normis,

Would you have any idea on why I can’t see the adapters ?

Mark

apparently RouterOS doesn’t support them. use something more common, from this list:

http://www.mikrotik.com/docs/ros/2.9/guide/driverlist

Normis,

The pcmcia card is an intersil prism type card. This is in the list as supported?

Mark

Normis,

OK I am just buying a Dlink DWL 650G card which is in the list as compatible. I am struggling to find an Ethernet pcmcia card though, can you suggest one please ?

Thanks Mark

3com made some, though I have not used one in probably 4 years.

Please can someone tell me what card I can buy that is compatible with the routerOS … I have looked through the supported device list and really can’t seem to workout what card to buy. This for a test environment as I am using an old PII laptop.

Thanks in advance Mark

Hi,

Can anyone help please. I need to buy an ethernet pcmcia card that works with the routerOS. Please can someone advise me what I should buy.
