Hi there,
I am looking for a platform to run Xenserver with 12 - 16 guest OS’s. Looking at the routerboard page I see that the hardware specs of the CCR1016-12G is sufficient to do this. Is it possible to reinstall the host OS on the routerboards and install Xenserver in lieu of RouterOS?
Power efficiency is the most obvious benefit of Tilera’s proprietary VLIW CPU design. The company claims a performance-per-watt advantage of up to 10× over Intel’s 32nm Xeon design. In the server market, however, the big challenge for Tilera is that its proprietary architecture is not supported by commercial operating systems such as Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, VMware ESX, and XenServer.
I suspect you should be asking the XEN people if they support the Routerboard rather than the other way around.
Didi you know the new Lanner FW-8895 appliance?
Link: Lanner FW-8895
It has the skills and the power to do so!
You could install VMWare or Xen and then inside of the VMs RouterOS.
See the tech specs on the left side you will be able to insert:
2 x Intel Xeon 29xx CPUs
up to 128 GB ECC RAM
hot swap able PSU case fans and HDDs
4 HDDs and 4 modules with 4 SFP+ ports on each
8 modules with 8 SFP or copper LAN ports
modules each sorted with one TILERA Tile Gx36 many core CPU for 8 SFP or copper LAN Ports
It would be a really hardcore and powerful appliance or merarouter home or virtual router host
in my eyes the only real one that bringing much more flexibility and enough reserves for greater
installments.
On the CCR1036 you will not be able to install Xen server I think, only if metarouter
is enabled on this RouterOS version it would be a real chance to do so.
