Interesting problem with Vlan...

Hi All, hoping someone else can shed some light on this one for me.

I am running a vlan (well 3) over multiple routers and then bridging the 3 together at a central point with a bridge.

There are 3 sites, connected to a central router, all using vlans over ethernet / wireless interfaces to acheive this.

Site 1 can send and receive to site 2 perfectly with a good data rate
site 2 can send to site 1 perfectly with a good data rate
site 3 can receive from site 1 and 2 perfectly with a good data rate
site 3 cannot send to site 1 or 2 with a good data rate. It gets capped at 2mbit / second, and goes no higher or lower

This condition only exists if i am bandwidth testing on the internal IP range we have set up. site 1 has the DHCP server, and is the router i am bandwidth testing to. From site 2 this is 4 hops away. From site 3, it is 5 hops. From site 2 to site 3 it is 4 hops.

If i set up a dhcp-client on the central router (inside the internal IP range), i can send and receive from all the sites at maximum bandwidth.

Now heres the tricky part. each router also has an externally accessable IP address which we use to route all external traffic over (internet). If i band width test between the 3 sites, the above problem doesnt occur.

There are no queues in place, no firewall rules i can find.

the 3 sites are running RB112’s on .43 and the central router is a PC router running .27. I would upgrade but our licence has expired and thus requires a full re-install. We run other Vlans through this same router without this problem as well, it pays to note

Any help? Anyone?

Hi,

we’ve had seen poor performance using RB112 in combination with
cheap switching hubs. This was direction dependant. Try to directly
connect a pc to the RB112 with performance problems.

I confirm this VLAN problem. I work with lot of devices and with cheap switches I had some problem to manage VLAN’s
