Interface bonding issues on RB1100 and Cisco switch

Hello MT community.

I have run into a problem with RB1100 (ROS 5rc7, fw 2.29) when I try to use it in conjuntion with Cisco 3750 (or 3550) switch. I have set up bonding interface on my RB1100 using 802.3ad mode for balancing and fault tolerance and EtherChannel with LACP on Cisco to utilize two physical links. The idea is to use it as trunk port (dot1q) for VLANs. I also have configured VLANs on Cisco and RB1100 accordingly. After all this setup is done, it is supposed to work, but it’s not. How do I know that it’s supposed to? Because it works with RB531 (ROS 4.16) and a PC (ROS 5rc7) with two Intel NICs. I have traced down that for some reason LACP is not functioning. It’s not aggregating/bundling links. I can tell it by issuing “show lacp” commands on Cisco switch. It does send data across the link when I have both interfaces connected, but when I physically disconnect one, it does not switch over to another and connection get’s lost. I use “ping -t” command to see if link gets broken. However it works as expected on two other MT setups I mentioned earlier. I get the same results Atheros chip powered ports and on ether11 and ether12 ports too.

I also tried to preset speed modes and duplex modes, however with Cisco 3750 being set as 100Mb full duplex my RB1100 would randomly switch between full or half duplex even when autonegotiation is turned off.

I have spend whole day trying to trace down the problem and find a correct setup without any results. I migth post configuration scripts and extra information later, because right now I don’t have access to all that stuff. I hope you can give me any advise or something.

Thanks.

FYI. It works with v5rc11, however I was not able to find anything in the changelog from rc8-rc11, that would give me any obvious clue about what made it happen. Was something changed with interface stability with ciscos?

802 ad mode was not working on RB1100 ether1-ether10. It was fixed in one of the latest RC versions.

RB1100AH (ROS 5.2) and Cisco 2950 was having unstable connection when connected using bonded interface. Is this a problem with Atheros chips MT is using? It never happens with chips of other brands.
