internal ip telephony with mikrotik

hi guys

i want to make a mikrotik box with ip telephony package installed with 1 ethernet interface connected to a switch and 5 VOIP telephones connected to the same switch to make conference calls between them ,

can mikrotik do that ?

I haven’t used MT for this purpose, but the documentation indicates what you want to do should be possible. However, you might be better off using an external Linux box running some variant of Asterisk.

Asterisk is better documented and supports a wider range of interface cards if you need to connect into POTS/PSTN or ISDN lines. Most of the cards supported by MT seem to be the low end types with no echo cancellation.

You would need to use a fairly beefy PC as your MT router, I would have thought the RouterBoard hardware may give poor results.

Maybe someone else who has implemented Telephony on MT routers would care to comment further?

focus on the telephony package has dissolved. 3.0 no longer supports telephony. If looking for a long term solution i suggest using something else.
