adsl modem/router workining in bridge mode connected to the phone line.
I have RB951Ui-2HnD (5 Ethernet ports and a Wireless chip).
My problem:
sometimes, and for about one minute or less the internet connection keep getting down many times in short period.
and when i check the PPPoE Status in the routerboard is says connected.
i suspect the adsl connection itself but i have no clue to verify that because i set the modem/router in bridge mode and thus the internet led is always off.
Does any body have an idea on how to investigate the cause of the problem?
View interface stats, does it show bad packets (CRC error, etc). I had a bad cable once and many packets were being lost due to CRC errors. But my network didn’t go down, just my 100mbps network was only doing 15mbps
Enable the debug topic in logging. Maybe that’ll tell you something. System > Logging
Run a constant ping (From Mikrotik) to gateway, when internet goes down, does ping go down? IP > Ping
On a batch of RB951Ui-2HnD I worked with, Port 5 was unreliable. Other ports were fine. But problem showed itself as 50% reduced throughput.
With intermittent outages like yours, I’d think maybe there is a bad line somewhere. Maybe the wires going to the pole or in your neighbourhood. Wind and slight movements break the connection..
Finally, you’d have to swap out the modem to test that..
Can you read the logs after disconnect cycle.may be it shows
pppoe client terminating…disconnected peer is not responding.
this error is also occure in some of our haplite and rb951. solved by upgrading routeros.
also set pppoe-client keep alive time out to 10 or 20 second.
