Interresting Wireless Interface "Fix"

So…

You whent out and picked up one of those new wireless interface cards…
Ala SR71 series…

I picked several of thiese up…

So here it goes…

If you take a “freah router” and install 4.0B4 and some of the new SR series cards
the card will show up in the system/resources, but NOT in the wireless interfaces.

This looks to be a bad day…

Not all is lost !!! Follow me down the rabit hole, and you will find wonderland…

  1. Install 3.28 with all standerd packages.
  2. Reboot the router.
  3. Upload the 3.28 “Wireless-test” package and via winbox, reboot and let the package install.
  4. Wait for reboot to complete. (NO the card wont show yet…)
  5. Upload the 4.0b4 package set (I used the single file)
  6. Reboot and let the router come ready.
  7. Make sure the router has the new license format license file and reboot if needed to apply the new format.
:sunglasses: Afer reboot if needed, Take a look at the wireless menu… And welcome to wonderland…

The card is there !!!

Dont ask me how it got there !!

You cant do a freah install of the 3.28 with the wireles-test package, it NEEDS to see the wireless -test package “upgrade” the existing package…
Then wnen 4.0b4 installs it reads the 3.38 ini files and loads the card and it becomes available..

Or, instead of doing all this, you can simply follow the “manual” and click the “update license” button in routeros v4.

License file is / was up to date…

A fresh install of 4.0b4 then update lic file produces the following:

Device shows in system/resources but NOT in interfaces.

If you install as 3.28 (with std) packages then upgrade to 4.0b4 (and update the lic file) same outcome.

If you install 3.28 (with wierless test) and upgrade (and upgrade lic) same outcome NO device…

For the SR71e the only path that worked:

  1. Install as 3.28 std wireless
  2. Install 3.28 Wireless-test
  3. Upgrade to 4.0b4
  4. Upgrade Lic key.

Then device shows…

The Lic key was not the issue…
It was the wireless package configuration…
