IP and Bandwidth monitoring

I’m working at a company that uses a wireless internet supplier to produce our internet connection. We have a limited amount of gigs of bandwidth a month to use, but the bosses kid shows up and on the days he is here, we reach our limit. months that he isn’t here, we are far away from reaching our bandwidth cap. I found out from our WISP that we are using a Mikrotik RouterBoard. They also showed me how to get his IP address, is there a way that I can monitor his bandwidth usage through the Mikrotik RouterBoard and then show the boss (his Dad) that it is him and not just us pointing blame… Please help…

it depends a lot on how your device is set up, and if you can get access to the routerboard device (ie. do you also have the username/password ?)

if you do have access, you can set up all kinds of ways how to monitor each IP address bandwidth

I can request it from the WISP… is there a guide I can use to setup the MikroTik RouterBoard for that purpose?

one thing that you can ask them, is to enable “traffic flow” and then connect with NTop utility to monitor each IP bandwidth: http://www.mikrotik.com/testdocs/ros/3.0/aaa/traffic-flow.php

I should warn you though, RouterOS can be quite complicated for people with no experience in configuring routers.

Thank you normis… You have been a great help… I’ll run this by the WISP and do as they advise… Thank you again…
