IP Cloud and Time

With the addition of IP cloud… I stopped using the SNTP client in RouterOS a while ago.

Now ever so often, I log in to a router and find the time to be WAY off. One was so off that SSL connections failed.

So I have recently added sntp unicast client back in my config.

Anyone else seeing this?

if you can, use SNTP service to get the time instead of the time from the cloud as for security, you need correct time. Time from IP cloud will be with the precision of - within a second for the most time.

Clocks were off by minutes to several hours.

And as I stated… added back in ntp client.

Will check over routers in a few days and see if they seem to stay on time.

I am well known here as the ip cloud opponent. But anyway this looks it this is another argument for not to use ip cloud at all.

Then why bother writing in every post? If the feature is useless or unusable it will die eventually. Just by opposing you are stirring up the interest, so there are other features in from the ‘/ip cloud’

I found 2 2011s that are running a ipsec tunnel between them. One of them… time is right. The other is off by a few hours and minutes. Both are using ip cloud. I don’t have admin rights on them, so I need to contact the installer.

Would you like a support file?

yes. that could be useful.

Files are in the mail.

Janisk

Did the 2 files I sent last week make it?

yes, files received, potential problem resolved.

FWIW I like IP Cloud, Time and DDNS. Single click convenience. Believe it or not but there’re home users here who base their decision to get an Asus router on it having free asuscomm.com DDNS.
