IP proxy, DNS cache, and more?

Hello Mikrotikians,

My topic is how to improve customer internet experiences for wireless users:

Last year we switched platforms from motorola to Mikrotik. We are pleased so far. I am wondering about techniques you all are using to help speed up access to wireless clients who are 20+ miles from the NOC. In some cases, we have 5 and 6 hops, and want those customers to feel their browsing service is as good as our wired competition. My idea is to reduce air traffic to the NOC. I started testing IP proxy and DNS caching on (real) servers, and that seems to help. What is your experience with this, and do you have any other tips for other WISP owners who are now using MT as their platform.

bump. The real question is how do wisp operators tune their services to come close to matching DSL/CABLE competitors? Are we all in a dying field whose only hope is to service non-service areas?
