iPhone 3G can't connect to Mikrotik CAPsMAn2 WPA/WPA2/AES-CCM network

Hello!

I have 1 mAP and 5 cAP devices all in a v6.32.2 CAPsMAN2 configuration. Every device connects without an issue (all of which are Apple devices of various types and generations) except for an iPhone 3G. This device sees the SSIDs, but fails to connect (I can attempt to get the exact error message from dear’ol mom if it will help ). This is the oldest device that is trying to connect.

I don’t see anything in the logs. I have wifi logging enabled and DHCP logging enabled. I don’t see any indication of association attempts from the phone’s MAC address, nor do I see any DHCP related events from that MAC in the logs.

The phone specs seem to suggest that it supports WPA2/PSK, although I haven’t tried to enable TKIP, but aside from that, does anyone have any thoughts about why this might not be working based on any experience they may have with these older iPhones?

Also, what sorts of diagnostics can I run to try and identify the issue? I see that there are wireless snooper, sniffer, scanner, etc. tools, but I’m not sure if they would help here (notwithstanding the fact that I can’t run them due to a “other tool running (6)” error, but that’s another post…).

Thanks in advance for any insights.

What iOS version the iphone 3G is using?
Does it connect to a standalone Mikrotik AP with wireless security enabled?
What is the error log that you see on the iphone after it fails to connect?

Hi,

The phone is running 4.2.1.

The error on the phone screen is simply ‘Unable to join the network “37”’.

I don’t have a standalone Mikrotik AP, so I’m unable to test whether that works. That said, it has worked just fine for years on an Airport Extreme in a WPA/WPA2 configuration.
