IPTV Support....

Good day all…

Haven’t posted in a while, but I’ve been wondering lately about the feasibility of implementing an IPTV solution within our existing network. As it stands, we currently use 2.4Ghz and 900Mhz at our stations; but was thinking about venturing into the 3.5Ghz arena, and dedicate that solely to broadcasting IPTV strems that would require a ~1mbit pipeline per channel at SDTV quality… what do you guys think about such an idea?

Regards

Hi,

I’m working in that idea, but the problem is on PIM routing in Wireless interface. Can see this post:

http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/multicast-routing/16779/1

PIM work ok on ethernet interfaces but when I want to use it in Wireless interface ,can’t send more than 3 Mpeg2 streams (10Mb) but the link can pull more (btest says 40 Mb). The same link in bridged mode can send 6 Mpeg2 Streams (20Mb), but a bridged network is not a solution for more than one client.

Good luck and wait a Mk solution.

Kike.

Have you considered where you’ll get the TV content and how you’ll do the encoding?
The last time we looked at into it, it wasn’t profitable (costs about $5000 per channel for encoding).
