No answer from OP till now. 120 posts in the topic. Not interested?
Topic not closed, still waiting to not piss people that such a great question is banned.
I've already started (just for a -SINGLE- joke) with something that answers exactly what tangent wants, I got help from AI to generate a better answer than the ones I give, with more words, clearer, much prettier to look at, truly appreciable.
they are completely on-topic and explain perfectly what is requested
But the user prefer the answer I give in my usual way, and resolved the issue immediately. (Who knows why...)
No! Don't worry!
I'm a pretty touchy guy [ INTJ type for who know what INTJ mean... ], but I've lived long enough to know.
Even with bribes (joke), everything is fine.
It was just a joke, I haven't gone over to the dark side...
Hmm. I deal with posts and posters according to my own opinions. I expect Moderation to leave me the scope to make most of those choices for myself. Of course, if there is something egregious, a mod dealing with it helps us all. What this calls for on the part of a mod is laying down the personal opinions and acting only according to some sense of the combined preferences of the forum members.
I have been accused here of being AI for text I wrote myself and I seem to remember I was accused by you, @BartoszP [apologies if I am mistaken]. This suggests to me that [regardless of whether it was or was not you] mods should have a higher tolerance threshold for mod action than just their own reactions.
Still no answer from the OP, still not closed.
Any advices how to prevent such topics from emerging on the forum?
I wonder why so many posts focused on chewing moderator out but no one pushed the OP entity/item for the answer instead moving on as suggested?
IMO, it's easier to bawl live reacting human out than admit of being fooled to answer to an AI prompt becoming a HI fodder for it.
I choose humans.
Good, at least you don't call people who don't think like you racist (so as not to be misunderstood, pe1chl has nothing to do with it).
The TLDR version:
Q. Is Fiber Always the Better Choice Between Buildings?
A. Yes.
![]()
You left a question mark, so I will answer for myself [and possibly for others], despite feeling that the question was rhetorical.
I [and may be others] have actually moved on. I am irritated by posters who never come back. I don't like misapplied AI, but whatever is wrong with this thread, I don't need moderator assistance to move on. We possess autonomy and can make the choices for ourselves. We can make our own judgements as to what might be AI, which might differ and just move on. All we are left with right now is a moderator who has not moved on and is possibly itching to use the moderator controls. But the thread is not sufficiently egregious that any moderator action is required. If you feel chewed out it is because knowingly or not you are standing up to be chewed out.
Fiber is the better (and safer) choice for inter-building links in almost all cases.
Ground potential differences between buildings can drive damaging currents through copper Ethernet, and lightning/surge protection is far less reliable than the complete galvanic isolation that fiber provides. Use switches with native SFP/SFP+ ports at both ends (avoid media converters when possible). Only consider copper for very short, well-protected indoor runs under 100 m where cost is critical and risk is low; otherwise just run fiber.
What's the point of rewriting the exact same things?
It's like writing just for the sake of writing, because you certainly haven't followed the topic.
AI on reply of AI?
EDIT: Wow… Google Gemini gave me pretty much the same answer, with a slightly different word order.
Variations in electrical grounding between separate facilities can push harmful voltages across copper network lines, and standard surge defenses are nowhere near as dependable as the total galvanic separation inherent to fiber optics.
Deploy network switches equipped with integrated SFP/SFP+ receptacles on each side, steering clear of external media converters to eliminate extra failure vulnerabilities.
Restrict twisted-pair copper solely to brief, shielded interior runs below 100 meters inside a single structure when budgets are tight and hazards are nonexistent; in all other cases, opt for fiber.
I think if we wanted the search result from Google Gemini, it would have been easier to write it there directly...
If you do not care that such topics arise why do you answer in that topic? Just move on and ignore it. Somehow you decided to have a right to criticize the one who "cares" (in his opinion). Isn't it the same situation? Aren't you on the same "bad" side?
There are always "good teachers" and "bad teachers" at schools. Usually we realize after years that these "bad guys" were trying to keep "something" at highest level as it could have been but pupils/students however usually treat them and their efforts as unnecessary.
If I were dreaming about talking (feedeing) to an AI item, I would buy a subscription to any AI driven chat-bot for an endless nice and charming talk to hallucinating and storytelling lier that is so attractive as a runny, cold pudding from yesterday.
P.S.
I'm grateful for such disscussions as they do not let my English (better or worse) rust. ![]()
@BartoszP Read my previous post, and tell me what you think... Please...
I couldn't resist, really couldn't resist :
"Use your brain, Rextended ... use your brain" (the advice fades in fumes of absurdity)
tomm533's post was 100% AI. No doubt. But this topic should be locked. What else to say? Fibre it is. Unless "between buildings" refers to LEGO buildings in your own LEGO city. Wanting to expand your city to another playroom and now you have to connect cities. Then maybe copper is possible. But Fiber still would be possible also. ![]()

Because we are now on a meta-discussion.
You seem to be threatening to lock the discussion. I don't think I am out of order for telling you that I think that shutting the topic down is a step too far. Particularly as I think your AI detector gives false positives - I seem to remember you accusing me of using AI when I did no such thing.
SCOOP!
Ductview is a false positive! ![]()

A warning is not a threat.
Errare humanum est? Isn't it? Have you received an adequate apology?
Do you want a duel? Choose a weapon, I will choose a place. One second or two seconds for each?

You still blame moderation but justify the bad OP behaviour. Don't you think that it is impolite not to say simple "thank you" by the OP even? Does it fit you? Don't you feel offended with such behaviour?
I see that, IMO, "political correctnes" got so far that we should put the muzzle on our keybords to avoid causing offence to the AI and the word "should" has to be interpreted as all RFCs define it: it HAS TO/MUST.
All three of tomm533's replies appear to be generated summaries. Perhaps he is trying to be helpful, but if it is AI generated, I wish he would at least say so.
