Is frequent power cycles a problem

will frequent power cycles cause any problems with a routerboard 532? This router board will probably get unplugged and moved about 2 to 6 times a day. Will this damage the filesystem or configuration in any way?

Thank you

Just use the shutdown command…

Shutting down is not an option. I am looking for an answer to my question.

It’s should not damage anything, it’s not windows

Cheers and Happy New Year…

I’ve been told it will, but I have some test units that I have done that to about a million times and have not killed them so far.

If there is no hard drive and there are no writes occurring at the time of powerdown you should be okay. If there are any writes happening you could corrupt the filesystem. To minimize the risk you should not write logs or anything else to disk.

or use /system shudown

yancho, it has been said twice that shutdown is not an option and you come with this advice…

in4ni, you don’t have to be afraid at all. We have several routers that shutdown harddrives automatically and this feature can’t be turned off (stupid compaq bios, there is power management disabled and still this is happening). What I want to say : mikrotik doesn’t use harddrive during its operation, there is no need to except for writing changed configuration or logs. Go ahead, power outages will not do any harm to your system.
