So, I moved to an area where there is no ISP. I’m using tethering via USB, but I was wondering if I could use the router to somehow connect to my mobile phone’s hotspot, then route that via wired?
sure you can, set the wireless interface in station mode, set it as dhcp client and as gateway
Can you comment what outlet the RB951 uses as well ? I don’t want to fry it.
edit: The AC adapter that fits I have is nla050120w1a

24V 0.8A power adapter

12V 1A power adapter
Hmm it’s hard to tell it from the external hard drive plug
edit: It was the other one, lucky it didn’t damage it, just didn’t run.
Well I turned on wifi on the RB, and the phone and found it’s SSID there.. Verizon Moto E (4) 1168 . But, that’s as far as I got before I got lost. Where do I set the wireless interface to “station” or to talk to my phone and not the neighbors wifi ?
Here’s one way to setup your RB951ui as a CPE.
951ui-2hnd to CPE with wired access on ports 1-5 (based on rOS v6.42.1)
USE Winbox.exe
- Reset configuration to factory defaults
- Wireless/Advanced mode
a. mode=station
b. SSID=hotspot network name
c. frequency mode=regulatory domain
d. country=“your country”
e. amtenna gain=2
f. Click “Apply” and then “OK” - Bridge/Ports
a. Delete “wlan1”
b. Add ether1 to bridge - IP/DHCP Client change to Interface=wlan1
- Interface/Interface List - Change WAN Interface to “wlan1”
- System/Users - Change login Name and add login password
I thought about this, then I realized I only get 60 KB/sec anyway, so I decided just to leave the RB alone till I can get a real ISP, or maybe check on a different mobile network next month than Verizon.
