Is MT a radius server

I want to setup a MT box as a radius server. How do I do this or is it not do-able?

Radius Client only!!! POOPIE

Technically, I guess it is - but it’s not really designed for it - you’re going to miss out on a ton of features.

Recent posts also showed the MT Radius implementation to be rather bugy, at best.

Hello Savage,

You should point out any defects in the current radius – generalizing as you have done means nothing.

RouterOS does not have a radius server. It does have a radius client and there are no known defects at this moment.

you obviously missed the posts. Just browse through the forums, it’s been discussed in allot of dept over the weekend - there are bugs in it IMHO.

At the very least, it’s not stable.. A simple mal-formed request crashes the listener. http://forum.mikrotik.com//viewtopic.php?t=6672 I believe.

savage, please either point to those posts, or quote them. there is nothing wrong with radius client in RouterOS.

Misunderstanding here - John Tully/Normunds state that there are no known defects in the RADIUS clients - correct, as far as I can judge.

savage pointed out that there IS some problem in the “incoming RADIUS” feature, which can be brought to stop servicing requests with an invalid disconnect request (which is discussed and an example written down in the post he linked to)…

And the “incoming RADIUS” feature reads like a RADIUS server running on RouterOS for many people - after all, it’s accepting commands from some other machine to do something - more or less a “server”, so :wink:…

YES, that is why I was thinking that it could serve as a radius server and not just a client as I have used on so many Hotspot boxes.
The reason I had hoped it would work is that I am NOT a Linux guru so free radius is a real bitch for me to use.

We are taking over all authentications on our ADSL lines so it would be really simple to use MT for this application. But MT won’t do it. So poop on the whole idea.

Hope they get radius added some day soon!!!

Mikrotik is still the my favorite flavor of the day!
