That’s right, but I have heard opinions that the best way to refresh the router on which many different versions of rOS was installed, is NetInstall.
Exactly like format c: windows and fresh instalation.
So is reseting the router and installing the new OS by dragging npk into the FILES = netinstal? Regarding freshness of the system.
OK, so in your opinion, doing upgrade from version ros 6.0 to version 6.38 is the same as fresh instalation v6.38 using netinstall?
netisntall is doing some kind of format etc, does the same thing hamening when you upgrade router?
Isn’t it the same as with smartphone where upgrade from android 5 to 6 is better when you restore to defaults after upgrading to android 6?
Yes, you can upgrade directly from 6.0 to 6.38 without any issues.
The only difference is that Netinstall can clear your config and format the disk. This is not needed in most situations. RouterOS and Android are quite different. RouterOS does not have any user files or applications that can conflict, so there is no need for any cleanup.
ok, but would you recommend doing a reset to default after major upgrades (eg from 6.x to the latest? or if RC package was used?)
I’m not talking about home hAPs or 951 bot ccr’s that are working as a bgp and stability is crucial.
what about my 2ns question? netinstall via wifi connection?
Whatever hardware you use, reset to defaults should not be necessary during RouterOS updates. But whatever you do, please remember that after each update you are advised to always test your critical boxes before putting them back to production. No one can guarantee that your particular configuration will work as expected with a specific version of software.
