Hello all, I’m trying to set up my first Mikrotik router but so far I’m unsuccessful. I’m a beginner when it comes to networking but I’m trying to learn. I’ve read through the basic startup guides and don’t see anything obvious I’m missing, so hopefully someone with more experience can help me out. I’m attempting to use the RB2011UAS as my home router with a Motorola SB6141 cable modem. I can access the router via Winbox or the web GUI, but I’m unable to access the web with my current settings. I used the Quick Set option and selected Home AP from the drop down tab, set address acquisition to DHCP as I have a dynamic IP address from my ISP. When I do this, I sort of expect the WLAN IP Address field to fill in with my public IP address and Gateway, but it remains on all zeros, not sure if that’s normal. I’ve rebooted my modem several times and attempted DHCP release and renew. As it stands, I can ping the router but that’s about it, traffic seems to stop there. I also tried using a static IP by manually inputting my IP and Gateway but still have the same issue. What steps should I take next?
I’d be happy to post screenshots or answer any questions, thanks in advance.
Thanks for the responses guys. I went ahead and reset the router but I’m still having the same issue. I set it to Home AP Mode, and made sure DHCP address acquisition was selected, released and renewed, but I still can’t seem to get reach a gateway from my ISP. All I want to do is be able to connect to the Internet with a single interface and I will toy with more advanced options later. I assume there is a simple step I must be missing if you think a reset should have fixed my problem, but I don’t know. Any other ideas?
You must plug the internet cable into the first port, I see the first port is not plugged in. I also suggest you to click that “Check for updates” button once you have internet working.
Ah okay, well I feel silly now; I just assumed the WAN port was the one on the rear, I should have paid more attention to my own screenshot. Thanks, I got it up and running now using default settings, but curiously when I change the Quick Set drop down menu from AP to Home AP, I lose connectivity. This seems to just alter some options in the GUI so I’m not sure it even matters, but any idea what else I would need to change to get it working in Home AP mode, and are there any advantages or reasons to do so?
