Is the rb450 reset button defective by design?

I grabbed a spare off the shelf.
Never been used except for perhaps some config testing - which is what I was going to do this morning.

Password set to who-knows-what.

This is one of the updated models apparently, one which actually has a reset switch.

Too bad it doesn’t work.

The usual broken MT reset - both lights stay on until power cycle, and at that point it has not reset anything.

Yes I have a null modem cable somewhere - but most of out pc’s don’t have serial ports anymore, my laptop that I would take onsite in a situation where I really need to reset the device certainly does not.

So, I’m now supposed to either search out an old pc, or cobble together a usb-serial adapter, combined will a null modem cable, and hope it works.

Given my time screwing around with a BROKEN FEATURE, it would be just as cheap to smash it with a hammer and buy another one.

It’s stupid crap like this that is grossly unprofessional which has caused me to seek out alternatives to Mikrotik gear.

that button is not for reset and the fact you are not able to google it says a lot about you

Well, now I feel like a little bit of a jackass.

I’m still not happy with MT though.

If a router needs a complete reset, I really don’t want to have to pop it open in the data center and screw around. If I needed that much security, the router would be under lock and key - which it is.

Kudos to you though for shoving the answer in my nose - more that I’ve ever received from the MT drones.

I do recall that an indoor case for RB433 does have written “Reset” on the hole
corresponding to that button. I do not remember how is for a RB450.
But in fact that button is used for backup bootloader.
