Is there a way to do basic logging of addresses? upgrade too

Basically in topic. I’m wondering if there is a way to do basic logging of address visited by one interface ? Specifically WLAN to find out what people are visiting.

I’m assuming that I’d have to go as far as capturing the packets with wireshark and packet sniffing on the router ?

Second part,

I’m showing 5.26 as the version and no upgrade when checking for upgrades. Is there really a reason I’d want to go to 6.X ? Are they stable ? Do I need to do anything special to upgrade ? Would need to upgrade if everything is fine with 5.26 and stable ? (Another words, will 5.26 have “security updates” ?)

For logging, you could use torch for real-time info, or put a firewall rule on the wifi interface with a target of LOG and stash that somewhere (hopefully not on your flash!) with syslog, or use netflow export, or do the sniffing thing… and probably about half a dozen more.

5.26 is at the end of development and that apparently includes security. FWIW I went from 5.26 to 6.20 on my 751G, no problem at all. Specifically the new PPP tweaks finally got me to make the switch.

How did you preform the install ? I heard you need to update firmware too ?

Just go grab the right file, upload it to the router, reboot… easy! There’s a firmware upgrade that you can do after the OS upgrade (from system/routerboard) that comes bundled with the OS package.

Is it a “stable release” ?

What version do you refer to by your question?

Well , assuming that I should use the “mipsbe” (Since the router is the RB951-2n) it’d be v 6.20 .

It’s stable.

I updated. It seems I don’t have to do a lot of dilly dallying to turn off wireless now ? I can just disable the wlan ?

edit:

It seems that it now can detect neighbor’s wifi too ?

Yes.

After updating the software I went to system → routerboard and the firmware is the same as what it says to update it to. 3.10
