Is there any PCI card that MT can detect?

I don’t know if I am in a pretty bad luck.

Today I went to some shopping centre who sales computer stuff and I got my ASUS motherboard using AMD cpu with me with 256 memory. so I went shop by shop trying all PCI card to make MT work (in plain word, DETECT IT)

I tried Dlink DWL-G510 and NOT DETECT

then SMC 2802 Wireless PCI Adapter and it did not detect it

then I tried 108mb netgear and it detected by mt but it was not working at all… and when I enabled it MT Crashed

in driver list it detected ar5213 but in the WLAN description it said 5212

then I tried another netgear 54 mb and version 2 and it did not detected

then I tried stupid brand called infosmart which it said 108mb and it did not detected

then I tried another gigabyte 54 mb and it was not detected

then I tried senao 3054 and it DETECTED VOILAAAAAAAAA, but goddamn it it only worked as AP and in STATION mode it can’t connect to any AP… (it doesn’t like to be leecher, want to be leeched!) and its wds keep Disconnecting and connecting …

I had one netgear 54 mb with atheros5212 chipset (version 1) from past and it is the only card that can work and new version is imcompatible.

I was wondering if such expensive pay software as MT cannot detect these list of pci and madwifi guys had even made driver for that stupid brand InfoSmart, then what’s it good for?

I mean I read in the website that there is MT had 50 ppl staff and they can’t detect major brands? what is going on? am I doing something wrong?

I tried mt 2.8.18 which I burned the CD in past and then I tried 2.8.26 which was latest with all card again and again… it is 24 hours limited and I have no plan to buy it until I can make it work but is it the version problem? I did not try 2.9 since it is so called Beta.

Malaysia market is not wide and its limited to certain famous brand, we don’t have buffalo or demarctech but we do have dlink and netgear… if MT support it.

any help to find a PCI card is highly appreciated
Thanks for reading

Well, I will give you one reason not to be mad

Imagine if mikrotik could support all cards that you like, what kind of jungle that would be?
Nobody could help ya with problems, cause nobody could be sure is it card problem or something else.
So, buy wistron atheros or senao/pheenets prism2.5 and all of your problems will disapear…

Cheers…

I don’t quiet understand, for instance microsoft has a buggy operating system but at least thousands of drivers already included in its pack which actually work when it is detected and if it is not detect it will not work

but in mt is different, even if it is DETECTED it may NOT work.

other than that, I have SENAO 3054 which is the only pci senao have and it is atheros based, I don’t know how come yours is prism2.5 but it is not working in station mode !

other than that. Dlink or SMC or NetGear are not JUNGLE and they have major market in hand or others such as linksys or cisco and blah blah…

and why would MT announce that chipset 5213 is working and supported when it is NOT actually working properly?

Ok there are two chipsets mikrotik supports fully. That is PRISM2.5 and Atheros. Those chipsets are found on a vast majority of wireless cards. Senao has a product line for PRISM and a product line for Atheros. The manufacturer has little to do with weather or not it is supported, it comes down to the chipset.

Theres a whole section in the Mikrotik Manual/Admin config guide that tells you what Mikrotik recommends for cards to use with their software, and what the limitations are of using other chipsets.

That said, have you tried any other means of solving your problem other than flaming these forums? MT does support their products try dropping them an email, I’m sure they’d be glad to help get you up and running.

Well I didn’t say that these card are JUNGLE, I just said if all of the cards are supported it would be jungle.

Cheers…

:open_mouth: To support every card built like a Full LINUX or WINDOWS system would require around 1Gig of program space. MT is running in less then 65 Megs. Under that limit I find the number of Cards they support is a creadit to some very well designed software

why not RTM for a change?

there you can see all that works. no more guessing.
