We have ethernet lan and mikrotik instaled as router with adsl connection.
We use nat and 192.168.0.0/24 for local ip addresses with 192.168.0.1/24 as gw on mikrotik.
Is there any solution/protection when somebody set 192.168.0.1 as his ip address to local pc internet just dissapear.
When we used linux/slackware we hadn’t such problems, is there any option how to decrease arp broadcast intervals for mikrotik or any other solution ?
Use DHCP for your clients or teach your clients about their IP addresses, not to change his/her IP address without your permission if you have static IP range.
Hi all ;
why you are not using a DHCP server and your network pc’s get the ip from the MT ?
or you could change the network ip and GW to another range .
I don’t have a clear idea about ARP and here i put a question to anyone could help us to explain the ARP .
with best regards .
it’s home local lan so i cannot restrict ip change from users pc
and concerning dhcp it’s good idea when user do it accidentally
but when it is made intentionally ?
Hi again ;
I think your adsl ip is not 192.168.0.1 , and you are configuring your MT with them .
so the lan IP going to all pc’s behind the MT could be set as you like , you could use any range you want not just 192.168.0.1 ,
also you could set the ip for your MT lan interface with like 192.168.0.200 or 250 or whatever .
i will make a test with my server to use GW ip like 192.168.0.0 and see if it works or not .
also you simply could use the best way in MT as i do by using pppoe server .
the ip come to them when the connection established and they should use username and password to login the server to reach the internet .
also you could merge their MAC id with the account so they will not be able to use the account from another pc.
with regards .
If your 192.168.0.1 IP is online first, the offender should be the one to get the “duplicate IP” error message.
If this is being done intentionally, then I would think about finding the offending computer and pulling the plug. My next solution would involve a “Louisville Slugger”.
